Is IVF better than tubal reversal?

Dr. Morgan stands behind our position: IVF costs about the same once you count the whole journey, with a higher chance of conceiving. Reversal can work well for some younger women with clips or rings and no other fertility factors. IVF tends to fit better when:

  • Tubes cut or burned, or too short.

ASRM notes lower results than after rings or clips, and advises deferring reversal under 4 cm of remaining tube.

  • Sperm factor.

Reversal repairs the tubes only. IVF with ICSI can work with low counts or poor motility.

  • Age 40 or older.

ASRM reports about 45% pregnancy at 40 to 45, with about 26% miscarriage.

  • You want embryo testing.

PGT-A is in Morgan's Complete IVF Package. Reversal has no equivalent.

  • You want one plan.

One timeline, not surgery first and IVF after.

Frequently asked questions

Does Morgan Fertility offer tubal reversal?

No. We offer IVF, which does not rely on the fallopian tubes. If another route fits you better, we will say so.

Is IVF better than tubal reversal?

Our position: IVF costs about the same as a tubal reversal and gives a higher chance of conceiving. It depends on your age, how your tubes were tied and your partner's fertility.

How much does tubal reversal cost?

Published cost guides report roughly $5,000 to $21,000, with most patients paying about $8,000 to $13,000, usually out of pocket. IVF may still be needed if it does not work.

How much does IVF cost at Morgan Fertility?

The Complete IVF Package is $18,300 (IVF cycle, frozen embryo transfer and PGT-A testing). Monitoring, medications and pre-testing are separate. Payment plans are available.

Can I have IVF if my tubes are tied?

Yes. IVF does not use the fallopian tubes, so tied tubes do not prevent it. It is how you can get pregnant after tubal ligation without reversal surgery.

What are the success rates of tubal reversal?

They depend heavily on age: ASRM cites about 88% pregnancy under 30 and about 45% at 40 to 45. Tube length and how the tubes were tied also matter.

What is the ectopic pregnancy risk after tubal reversal?

ASRM reports 4% to 8% of pregnancies after tubal reanastomosis, compared with 1.4% after IVF.
