More than 80% of the recent respondents to a Morgan Fertility survey of patients undergoing fertility treatments said they wish they had undergone fertility tests earlier.
Roughly one in eight couples have trouble getting pregnant. The challenge is to know when to seek help from a fertility specialist for infertility testing. Generally speaking, the longer one waits to get checked for fertility, the lower the chances at successfully overcoming whatever obstacle there may be.
Male fertility tests are relatively quick, simple and discreet. Nearly 40% of all infertility cases are attributed to male factors. That’s a large enough portion of cases to warrant a semen analysis early on. Depending on the results, this male fertility check could identify or rule out the male partner as the source of infertility in a couple, possibly saving his female partner the emotional and physical stress of undergoing additional tests as well.
The Process
Female fertility tests start out just as simple with blood work to measure hormones and check for egg quality, as well as an intravaginal ultrasound to check for obvious abnormalities of the ovaries and uterus. Depending on those results, and what her partner’s semen analysis showed, additional tests like a sonohysterogram (SHG) or an X-ray of her fallopian tubes called a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) might be necessary. In some cases, a routine outpatient surgery like a laparoscopy may be required.
Tina’s Success Story
Tina’s Success Story
We had been trying to get pregnant using ovulation predictor kits for almost a year before I started to research online. I was shocked to find out that almost half of all infertility is due to male infertility and that at my age (36), our chances at getting pregnant on our own went down every month. My husband and I both went to Dr Morgan and Dr Meir Olcha for testing and we found out right away that he had a low sperm count. When I think of all those months wasted, I wish we had done testing sooner. – Tina T.
